Casper Ankergren had signed for the club earlier in the day and he went straight into the team that was largely comprised of young Junior players. His second debut did not go to plan as Robert Bayly, Fabian Delph and Tomi Ameobi all went close in the first half and opposing keeper had to be alert to tip the ball over the bar from Nathan Cartman, as the big Dane had little to do, other watch Mark Bett and James Hansen miss early chances for Guiseley. But the deadlock was broken as half-time approached when Richard Dunning gave the home side the lead when he scored with a terrific free-kick, which looped over the wall into the top corner of the net in the forty-first minute. Damion Ross replaced him in goal after the half-time break and a trialist also came on for Duane Grace at the same time. Nathan Cartman forced another save out of the home keeper with a long-range effort in the fifty-first minute. Tom Elliott also went close with a downward header, but Dickinson smothered well. Rob Pell, who had come on as a half-time substitute for the home side settled the game when he doubled the home side's lead with a header from a Nathan Hay corner in the fifty-eighth minute. This was a signal for United to make a double change a minute later as two trialists came on in place off Ross Wilkinson and Nathan Cartman. United rallied but could not make any impression on the scoreline, even though they sent on Stefan Connor for Tomi Ameobi in the seventy-fifth minute and a further trialist for Robert Bayly nine minutes later. Ollie Hotchkiss and Chris Ovington remained unused on the Leeds bench and Guiseley's substitutes were Paul Rickers, Sam Denton, Rob Pell, Gavin Knight and Chris Hall. The crowd of 2,180 was thought to be a record for the ground.
